Baldwin's Market, 1 West Main Street
Formerly at the corner of West Main Street and North Old Baltimore Pike, this converted 19th century brick dwelling was opened as Baldwin's Market by Edward Baldwin in 1946.  The store had a wrap-around porch on the south and east sides, a store entrance on the east side, and was the local filling station as well.

The five acre parcel between the Lewis House and the corner of Main and Old Baltimore was once the property of John Hall, the village's only known tobacconist.  It eventually was conveyed to Abraham Cannon, a merchant, on March 22, 1844.  Today, this acreage contains four modern houses, four asbestors shinlges houses of possible eighteenth or nineteenth-century origin, and the site of the former market.  The dwellings feature interior end chimneys, square attic windows and a box cornice with molded trim.
Baldwin's Market was forced to close in 1977, following the 1974 opening of the University Plaza.  The structure was subsequently demolished.  The lot in Christiana remains empty, save for a stone spring house which pre-dated the store's operation.
